THE VAGRANT INVITES YOU

Ian Piexoto's portfolio of short stories, poems, essays, and more.

FEATURED GENRE: GEO-FICTION

The Vagrant proudly presents, The Geo-Fiction Collection: a portfolio of short stories centering around geological and natural forces as non-human actants. Rather than human beings driving the plot forward, animals, plants, or environments are personified and realized as characters themselves. What was previously the story's backdrop comes to the forefront.

The geo-fiction genre draws from works like N.K. Jemisin’s The Fifth Season and Ruth Ozeki’s A Tale for the Time Being, as well as real-world environmental and ecological research. Of course, The Vagrant has added his own flare to the genre. Elements of solarpunk, science fiction, and high fantasy have been integrated into the portfolio. Many of the stories follow cycles or play with time--the prose and settings are as being alive just as much as their non-human actants are.

FROM THE ARCHIVE

The Vagrant dives into his extensive Archive, rediscovering pieces thought to be long forgotten from his elementary to high school years. From unfinished novels to silly short stories to nonsensical scrawlings in a tattered notebook, The Archive has it all!

Each story is posted in its original form, typos and all, and features a brief craft essay from Ian Piexoto himself, attempting to explain what was going through his head at the time.
